Two weekends
In a row! At home! Woot! Which led to some gardening and making stuff and running errands, one of which brought a dragonfruit into my life:
I haven't had one of these since I was living in Vietnam. They don't travel well and only grow in one small area in Vietnam (near Phan Thiet).
I harvested our carrots, which I will now think of as the greedy-needy vegetable. Lots of work, little yield. Also, there was a black widow spider living in there, which scared the hell out of me, what with my bug issues. I'd never seen one before, and had P come over to take a look. Oh, yeah, that's a black widow. He flipped it over with a stick and there was that scarlet mark on its tummy. The carrots are quite yummy, but carrots may not make the cut next year.
The hot peppers are coming in. There are some firey curries in our future.
I made a scrap bag... a bag from scraps, rather than a bag for scraps.
P made a dark box so that he can take his wet-plate get up on the road. I spent the better part of Sunday making the dark cloth drapery thing that makes this a dark box. Yowzers. It's on the road, right now, in fact, as P is in Tennessee, visiting family and trying out his mobile wet plate set up. Sadly, I wasn't able to take off from work. :(
Also, my canning equipment arrived. I made cold pack bread and butter pickles. Step one: harvest cucumbers, chop up, salt, and ice for a few hours.
Step... maybe five? There are others I didn't photograph. But this is the boiling water bath in the new pot.
Et, viola! Bread and Butter pickles! Hopefully I did this right and we won't die of botulism. Because that would be bad.
